best shops ive ever heard of or supported are
those that are owned and operated by
HONEST, INDEPENDANT mechanics.

Those shops have the work coming out their ears
and DONT have to advertise (word of mouth is better
than any print, radio or TV ad) !

I know I'm showing up for this fight after the bloods been wiped up, but I kind of admire JL's spirit. There aren't alot of people left who have real passion for their work. Right or wrong its an interesting post. Just my .02

gives some idea what it's like to have people blanket bash lawyers. That is, until they need one.

Can't say I disagree. From your avatar, signature, and posts of yours I've read, I'm thinking your more of a down to earth guy rather some stuffed shirt. I've had both. To hell with the stuffed shirts.

Thats what I would have said. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person but I could probably pass for a decent shadetree mechanic:dunno. Anything I can do to save myself a few bucks, I do. Especially when its almost $90 diagnostics fee! Thats more money for mods to my truck! It doesnt hurt to have some good buddies that are mechanics too.

i think john's picking up on a general decline of our civility towards each other. the degradation of the golden rule.

i think we are all guilty of it to some degree at times. i was thinking about this today after i read it this morning. i know i have lashed out at others for their ignorance, apathy or ambivalence, both here and in person. i think i have apologized (usually) if i stepped on people's toes.

sometimes, in the my thought process, i ask myself "what would mom/grandma say if she heard me say this" usually, i find myself answering the question something like "she'd smack me if i said that, but would be proud of me saying this..."

For me (and I think Many Others) It's not the hard working Mech, in the shop.. up to his or her arm pits in grease, dirt, oil and tranny fluid.......JLD.... It's the people in the front office. The Management, Corporate or Franchise.. and their [SOMETIMES] lack of Business Ethics, coupled with their Attitude toward the customer that makes a customer call them a derogatory name or two. It's NOT the Mech who Wrenches on things.

I agree with you about Blanket Statements though. But, if we got TO Politically Correct, Opinion and Profession sensitive on here.. We wouldn't have much to Post about. ;):)

Maxtor sez it all, I think.

+1

i am a hard working HONEST and FAIR mechanic, who looks out for the CUSTOMERS BEST INTEREST...and i work at a STEALERSHIP like loves to rape people. i know the comments arent directed at me.

Maxtor I think your right it really is up to us to have a positive attitude. With that being said a lot of people go to the dealer looking to get hosed and try to find excuses to feel as if they did. I am a self-employed carpenter and I know you can treat two customers the exact same ( being on time and doing what you have agreed to do) and you can still have one who feels like you cheated them.

I think we all need to remember that you don't have to go and buy a new vehicle or take your vehicle to the dealer for service. If you do and you feel like you are being cheated then who is really to blame? If you don't like the dealer you have ask around and find one that you can respect and feel that they respect you.

if i were to read TOO MUCH into this thread it would
almost sound like some one is THREATENING to leave
because of their professional background.

just be cause im a mechanic, a computer person,
a plow operator, a lawyer or a rock crusher, doesnt
mean someones post is more VALUABLE than anothers.
