Just got the call from the the dealerships service dept..... $3,800 for idm, wire harnes, glow plugs and a few other things i'm sure i dont really need. trucks always started just fine what do i need new plugs for? A $983.23 IDM and labor to install ...$302.23(really whats the .23 about). I've looked and looked and cant find any mention, through any site about needing to program IDM's.... but the programming time is what they said the labor cost was for. Can someone please put me at ease here tell me the IDM is just plug and play so i can pay ford thier $250 for the diagnosis, and take care of it my self.

what truck do you have? i KNOW its plug and play on the OBS! also, its extremely accessible on the OBS, 4 bolts and one plug, right out in the open on the drivers inner fender.

what was the problem they were diagnosing?

It should be plug and play on the 2000 as well.

I replaced mine last year. And they AIN'T cheap by any sense of the imagination.

It's in a real gem of a spot, too.
WTF up inside the driver's fender, you have to pull the fender liner out, and pull the lower bolts out of the fender to gain access. It sucks when you're doing it on your back, in the rain, alongside the highway.

BTW... A1 Cardone offers a reman, but I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it. I had to replace mine after about three days (we have had similar issues with Cardone electronics over the years, so you think I would have learned). The Ford unit has been in there ever since.

Thanks guys. thats what i needed to here. found the IDM online for a lot cheeper.got a short in one of the injector wire harness too..found those through napa. If i could just find an overhead creeper i'm sure this weekend under the hood would go a lot more smoothly.
