Now that the high idle mod is done, is 1200 RPM sufficient to avoid wet stacking? Is it safe to idle for extended periods of time, say 1 hour, while running the PTO? Thanks in advance, John

1200 should be ok, especially if your running a pto and WORKING the engine
I have left mine running at 1200 for a few lenghty times 20-25 minutes, egts hung around 350 or so and A/C was COLD
an hour may be a long time, and the temp safeties may kick in
There are a few safeties built in for the 1200, oil temp and tranny temps will cause a tq unlock and or a shut down to idle, so if your running a PTO that is working it hard,

an excerpt from teh body builder book
"The following are some maximum temperatures
monitored by the PCM. The aftermarket PTO
system designer or installer should consider adding
a sensor to monitor these for the purpose of
aborting the PTO operation to protect against
vehicle powertrain damage. Some PTO suppliers
may offer temperature monitors for this purpose.
a. Maximum Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT): 230° F
b. Maximum Engine Oil Sump Temperature: 284° F
c. Maximum Transmission Oil Temperature (TOT): 250° F
d. Maximum Catalyst Temperature: varies (not intended
for aftermarket monitoring).
If any of the above temperatures are exceeded
then "de-clutch" the auxiliary load of the PTO
operation and return the vehicle engine speed to
base engine idle. Allow the temperature to stabilize
at a lower level before re-engaging PTO operation.
Gas engine strategy uses these to abort SEIC
(return engine to base idle speed and unlock
automatic transmission torque converter)."

The body book does not give info about long run times, but i was say if you dont exceed any of the above parameters it should be Fine.

it should regulate up to 1200 if required by the ecm/pcm
as far as a switchable idle up, I beleive your going to need the AIC,
05 and 06's have this built into the ecm/pcm from the factory

its part of the engine warm up programming, it will aslo do it its its cool to cold out and the engine oil temp drops below a set range and your in park with the E brake on, it will ramp up to keep warm so to speak
shouldnt do it if its warm out.

Kind of a late reply:

You should be just fine with the high idle switch. In the winter time, my 03 high idles on average of 12-14 hours a day. Every day (winter months). UOA reports come back spectatular.

Yes. I can afford the fuel, don't bother telling me how much it uses. :p
