They do have a head bolt problem, in that the design of the motor did NOT use enough head bolts. The head gaskets can blow if you run a programmer and don't watch your boost gauge. ARP head studs will cure this, but it is a lot of work to pull the motor to do the studs.

I know you don't want one older than a 2005, but if you could find a 2002-03 with the 7.3 engine, you'd also get a good truck. However (from what I've heard and read on this site), the later 6.0's (2005-2007) were also good engines.

my truck is an '03 with the 6.0 and I haven't had a problem with mine. I think maybe it might be some guys throwing a ton of aftermarket HP at an engine without knowing their truck. I have done moderate upgrades, with moderate increases, and haven't had a problem:thumbs:laffup:burnit

Transmissions are the same. Springs are about the only difference. There are a few others, but nothing major.

I think some people are spreading bad information and WE are buying it, lock - stock - and barrel. 14 mpg is good for a 6.4!

Dave

Once mine broke in, the mileage is about 14.4 per gallon, hand calculated. Does a little better on a trip, a little worse towing. Same as any truck.
