last few mornings, the ol' grey mare has started OK, but when I take off down the road, it starts surging.. kinda acting like gelled fuel, but it ain't nowhere near cold enough for that.

I couldn't remember the last time I put a fuel filter in it, so I decided to change it out..
tons of what looked like flakes of pepper suspended in the fuel in the bowl..

I figured that would take care of it..

next morning, still surging.. I let it die this time, check engine light came on before it gave up the ghost, and it started like it wasn't getting fuel again..
but when it did finally start, it rocked and rolled like when you forget to plug your truck in at night and it turns the oil into molasses..

So it was due for an oil change anyway, I did that this morning. While I was at it, I pulled fault codes.. and
I had ICP not desired,
ICP too high/too low
and the ever present ROM error code you get when you have a chip..

I didn't drive the truck today, had no where to go..
I'll post up tomorrow what it does in the morning.

:sweet Glad you found it.

Your local IH parts house ?

With the 7.3 becoming an Endangered Species, maybe a New IPR ? When I did the Adrenaline thing.. seems the Dif between the kit, and a new one wasn't that great. (@ 12 years & 175,000 miles) :dunno

When I took off down the road, you could definitely tell there was something wrong.. It didn't stall or surge, but it did do the cackle.. and rolled/loped when it came back to idle..

I looked up TSB's when I got to work, one of the things they have you do is change the oil (which I did) and check the IPR PID with the scanner.
I should have taken the scanner with me and put it into movie mode.. you could see the IPR pressure wandering all over.. maybe I'll change the sensor along with rebuilding the regulator..

Man it feels good to diagnose one of these "dead platform" engines...
