I guess i dont really understand the point....we used 100s of
cops (probably paid em OVERTIME) to round these folks up...and
we feed 'em bologna sandwiches only to let 'em GO...

wouldnt it be better to COLLECT some MONEY from 'em ???
At least enough to cover the COST OF OVERTIME and Wages
paid to the COPS... I think the state needs a lesson in ROI !!!

Warrants sweep nabs hundreds
Local arrests part of statewide campaign against municipal scofflaws

By spending the night in jail, all of the <couple's>
outstanding tickets were dismissed for "time served."

sounds like a huge waste of taxpayer money. let's wipe the tickets and fines they owe us and pay to put them in jail overnight, pay the officers to process the arrests (meanwhile, they are not patrolling the streets) and they dont even spend 24 hours in jail. THAT WILL TEACH THEM!

What a stupid plan. How about rounding them up and saying, cough up the cash or sit there until you do?

sure...id give up a friday (or saturday) night to save myself
a few hundred bucks...

as i understand it ;) the only requirement is that you "cross"
the mid-night "tic" on the clock...enter @ 8pm, stay til 12:01am and
youre forgiven of your debt (to the town, city, county or STATE)...
and apparently (from this story) multiple tickets can be relieved
by "staying" one "night"...

I agree with you Bush. I imagine there are people out there who would line up for a night in jail, if it meant their tickets would go away. You have to keep them in jail long enough that it actually means something....i.e., they miss work and don't get paid. Then, there is an ACTUAL consequence to not taking care of your ticket.
I just don't get it.

Also, with this half-*****ed attempt at a "slap on the wrist", they'll just go out and do it again. Part of their punishment should have been to watch the "bloody" accident films like they show at defensive driving.

What a waste of time, effort and tax payers dollars.

They should have at least made these folks scrub toilets, mop floors and do something to offset the cost of the "roundup" during their "stay" in jail.
