Know of several that use filtered vegetable oil from resteraunt fryers. Start on diesel then switch to veggie oil then before shutting engine down switch back to diesel for a few minutes.

in 07 took a trip to fla. from stl.with the excursion had 2 55 gal barrels of 100% biodiesel (that I made myself from used veg oil) on a cargo rack on the back (rack I built myself to support the weight) drove down and back had to put dino fuel in at paducah ran out of bio 150 miles short of home. so to answer your question the diesel engine will run on most any oily substance as long as it is thin enough to atomize out of the injector

i ran filtered peanut, canola oil routinely in my 6.0
worked good last long time, thanksgiving i used turkey fryer oil

hhhhmmm
my 02 7.3 also had a vitamin injection of crankcase oil after an oil change
i filtered it through a 2 micron filter and off it went in the tank,
probably wasn't to good for the environment or the guy behind me
but it workie just fine

Wow...so you could start up the engine and get it warm on diesel....then switch over to wax since the heat of the engine would keep it melted. Well I guess whatever wax was in the engine already. How would it run off candle wax? (I feel like I'm being gullible for some reason). So do ya'll know of people that has converted their truck to run off hydraulic oil?

as far as the candle wax, the heat required to keep it liquefied throughout the fuel system would make a conversion a negative gain (it would consume more heat than it would produce).. not to mention the ash and deposits left over from the paraffin...

as far as the hydraulic oil conversion; you first have to consider the cost of the stock.. unless you have an unlimited lifetime supply, it's not worthwhile.. plus you have to consider the carbon and sulfur content of the oil, again for the same of deposits from combustion..

that's why guys stick to things like fryer grease (veg oil) and make bio-fuels.
Member Hheynow has converted both his car and his truck to run on pure veg oil, but you need a pretty steady supply of it to do so.

just dumping it on your tank is not a conversion, and mixing it with dino-diesel isn't B-anything, it's veg oil dumped in the fuel tank. Like drain oil would be. That's why you'd do something like four gallons of grease to a full tank of pump diesel.

Just because the source is cheap or free, does not mean that running it is cheap or free. There is a lot more to all of this than the feedstock. The hardware required to run hydraulic oil, or any other oil, is a big part of the total conversion. What you get out of it is the sum of the expenses of what you put it.

Just saw an ad from Bluegrassfuel.net in the latest issue of DieselPower about their TF1100 which converts hyd fluid, old oil etc. for use in diesels. Haven't checked it out yet though....

THE ABSOLUTE, and CORRECT, FIRST STEP.

Until then ? Don't use anything but #2 Diesel fuel... or a B-?? blend. ( but be prepared to change fuel filters.. for awhile)

Jus' my take on it Anywayz.
