I am SOOOOOO jealous and SOOOO happy to see quail numbers doing so good. We make a trip to Kansas every year to chase bobwhites and have a blast. I have been lucky enought to find some coveys are home here in Nebraska too this year which has been nice. PM me if you ever want to trade a bobwhite hunt for a scalded hunt!!! :sly

Sure............but forget everything you know about hunting quail. Nothing you know applys with blues.

No pointers, no leasurly walks. Leave the #7 shot and modified chokes at home. #5 & #6 shot, high brass with turkey chokes are your best friend. These birds are tough as nails, run like greyhounds, do not pin.....ever, they know how to judge distance and stay 40+ yrds out. If you shoot one out of the air and it doesnt hit the ground dead as a door knob there is a 80% chance when you get there to pick him up he will have run off and you won't find him. If he is still there and is still alive dont run over to try and pick him up......he is fixing to fly on you......get ready. We have shot and hit the same bird 3-4 times before planting him for good. I mean shoot.......roll him over on the ground......then watch him get up and run off. We joke that they have kevlar vests on. lol

OK....I may be wrong here, but it says "I94 & US131 Google it" for your location. Isn't that Michigan? If so.......I had no idea there were quail in Michigan. :dunno I thought you just had Ruffed Grouse up there? Which are also a FANTASTIC bird to hunt!!!

And Tbar......turkey loads for quail? Seriously? Man....never heard that one.

as far as the quail goes, neither do the quail. The last full-blown "covey" I saw (stepped in and had explode from under my feet?) has been at least a couple years...

the grouse are in decline, so are the pheasant; we can't get a dove season to stick...

personally, I blame the anti-fur movement.

No one is hunting fox, coyote or raccoons anymore... No one is trapping anymore, so all these mid-level predators are raising hell on the game bird population...

but no one gives a crap because we still sell 700,000 buck tags and another quarter-million doe tags every year...

sooo... we amuse ourselves by fishing for carp, since you can actually lay out two lines in the water without having some jerkwad cast across them (something I can't say about Dp's steelhead forays... hence the call for a fishing derby see here)
