Hello all , as this is my first post I'll briefly intro myself:

Doug
Bastrop, Tx
2001 F250 PSD 4x4 Crew Cab Lariat, 104K Miles
Superchips 80HP

Now as to my issue. It appears that my HPOP has taken a dump as there's diesel in the valley, got a rough idle, engine shudders at hwy speed, getting code p1211 (icp sensor high/low)...There also appears to be diesel on the HPOP... I haven't yet located exactly where the leak is but it appears to be coming somewhere off the pump itself.. This is the original HPOP w/ 104K miles on it...

Does this sound like a bad HPOP ?

Now assuming that it's the HPOP...Is there any advantage to getting a higher performance HPOP instead of a stock HPOP ? I basically have a stock rig w/ a 80HP programmer...Stock injectors etc... The few hi-perf HPOPS I've seen appear to be about 3X the stock price though...So not sure if the HP / $ ratio is worth it....

Thank you,
-Doug

HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump, has nothing to do with diesel fuel. Only supplies oil to the injectors, no fuel goes through it.

ICP sensor probably bad causing the rough running if that's the code you are getting... It tells the puter to tell the IPR valve how much oil pressure the HPOP needs to put out or something like that. Defaults to 700 PSI when bad or disconnected.

IPR valve could be sticking too causing the rough running.

A fuel leak in that area is probably coming from the fuel filter housing, probably a bad o-ring or seal on it somewhere.

HPOP is probably fine.

Also with stock injectors one of the high performance HPOPS ain't gonna do much for you.

I agree with most everything above except the last statement. I'm running stock sticks and I run out of oil in my higher HP tunes. I think that if you end up replacing the HPOP, go with a pump from Dieselsite or Stealth. They both make big oil pumps in single housing configuration. This, in my opinion, is better than the coupled-pump setup.

I believe Antonio went to a bigger HPOP with stock injectors and at the time he said it was the best mod he had done. Big oil is an improvement even with stock injectors.... but this is all rather off topic for the OP's original question.

My best advice is to clean the heck out of everything in the valley, then search for your leak.

Its OK Bart, the OP did raise the question about aftermarket HPOP's but I think that was with the notion in mind that his HPOP was the source of his fuel leak.

Thanks!

That makes complete sense....I'm a little embarrassed I hadn't figured that out but hey that's why I asked... I'm gonna go out and poke around with it some more... I'll let ya'll know what it was when I get to that point... Thanks, -D
