I know...I know... if there's a stick next to your right leg it's a manual.....got THAT answer somewhere else. NOT what I'm looking for!

My truck is a 96 OBS with an auto transmission. Haven't owned it long and have had no real troubles with it. NO tranny issues at all and I want to keep it that way.

I want to buy a filter kit and change the fluid and filter. Truck has 94k on it and I change tranny fluid at 25k in ALL my vehicles religiously. You can buy a lot of fluid and filters for the cost of one tranny rebuild so I consider 25k intervals cheap insurance.

How do I identify the exact model of transmission in my truck? I have the original owner's manual and the original window sticker but neither has the trans model listed. Window sticker just says 4-speed automatic with OD.

Thanks for the help in advance!

There should be a code on the driver's door post, that will show the transmission type. Post what you find for the tranny type and we can come up with what you have. I don't know, off hand.

The trans code on the door is an "E". It is an E4OD transmission.

As a FYI for anyone else looking for this information:

The WIX filter part number is: 58967 It comes with a cork/rubber gasket but I just reused the reusable (per Ford) steel/rubber gasket that was on the pan.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I love this truck! I'm doing my best to make it a 500k mile truck! My last "truck" was a 1998 E250 van with the 5.4 Triton V-8 in it. I got 312k out of her before I sold her for $400 more than I bought her for originally. She was still running good with shiny paint. I keep a "maintenance" log and log every penny spent on every vehicle I own, including all fuel purchases.
Never had a problem selling one of my vehicles and getting the price I asked either....

I would actually prefer the 'stick next to right leg', but, by buying this truck, I kept 'fat wallet in left pocket' and that was pretty important at the time.

I may eventually regret the decision to buy an automatic tranny in a truck that will pull serious weight BUT, I could buy a replacement auto tranny for the money I saved.

My first vehicle, (Willys CJ2A) has THREE sticks next to my right leg, no power nothin', and pretty good fuel mileage to boot!
