like everyone said clean it up, if there is oil in the valley your leak sourse is from up above ignore the oil on the bellhousing.. if your hp o rings have been replaced other possible leak sources are your cac tubs, a little oil sweat is normal, if you swipe your finger underneath and have a consistant amount of oil than you need to replaced them.. check by your hpop and your regulator.. othere than those placed you have your turbo pedestal orings or even your turbo itself.. but if it is your turbo you would usually have a smoking problem cuz when they leak it shoots right out your downpipe through your exhaust.. the easiest way to find the leak is clean all oil off with brake clean and watch while the truck is running to pinpoint it good luck

Thanks. I haven't tried to search for a leak while running....given my luck, that would be the end of my mustache (or worse)

What is a CAC tube? And where is the regulator. I need a schematic...:dunno

Per the last post I made, it was nice and clean yesterday when I inspected it, then I ran it in the warmer weather (40's). Today it had some oil again in the valley, and I snapped a few pix, below. I think it is leaking at one or both of the lines on the driver side of the HPOP, they are braided lines covered with plastic and they run to the cylinders -- see picture #1, look between 2 diagonal lines for the front suspect. Oil seems fresh on bottom of this front line especially(are these fuel or oil???)

There is also oil down and back of this, on an electrical connection on top of a cylindrical device (probably the injection pump regulator if I'm understanding the parts). See 2nd picture in thumbnail below. Since that is so close to the rear of the two lines noted above, I suspect it.

Finally, there is moderate previous leakage and cooked oil on both top and bottom of the reservoir, but no fresh leaks that I could note (picture #3, it looks wet because I cleaned it up again today).

So...assuming the two lines in picture #1 are the leakers:
a) what are they, and
b) is there an o-ring there?

I searched the wiki and other sites, can't seem to locate a schematic. Any further help is appreciated!

All lines on the HPOP are oil lines. They have o-rings where they screw into the pump.

IPR -- oring kit is part number F6TZ-9C977-AN

If the oil has settled in the forward depression of the engine valley, directly under the HPOP, it's highly likely it's your HPOP lines or a blown "O" ring on the non-serviceable plug on the HPOP. The IPR can leak as well.

Usually if it's a turbo or pedestal "O" ring you'll get more oil in the rear or center cavities of the engine valley.

How is your PSD running? any dead spot (no throttle response) around the 1200-1500 rpm range and then a surge?

Good question, but I don't know the significance of it! :D I've always thought this truck a bit of a dawg, unless I really stand on it... When I loaned it to a Dodge driver (got me to the airport) his irritating comment was "no low end torque". But he's a dork.

So, anyhow, the oil is up front for sure. I got an HPOP o-ring kit from the dealer (pricey red loc-tite, eh?) and will see if that cures it. Maybe in a week or two...out of town again...:watchout

The Ford "O" ring kit for the HPOP does not include the "O" ring for the non-servicable plug. That non serviceable plug may be what is leaking. International sells a rebuild kit for a 6 cyclinder HPOP that has (2) of the correct "O" rings for the 7.3 non serviceable plug.

Thanks. Do you have a number for the International kit?

Follow-up and more questions: The o-ring kit (Ford 2C3Z-9G804-AA) has 3 o-rings. I can see where they go... I cannot locate the "non-serviceable" plug, is that toward the front?

The leak is both HPOP and IPR too, I'm pretty sure.

Do I need to pull the fuel bowl for better access?

The kit says to get a special tool (Rotunda Essential Tool #303-625) to remove the HP oil hoses from the fittings -- where can I get it?

Lastly, I would sure appreciate a pointer to a schematic of the HPOP. :sweet

Thanks! :dizzy
