To all you "upnort" guys, what tricks do you use to deal with the cold. I'm not looking for the "plug it in when it gets cold and it starts fine down to -15" I'm talking about parking on a frozen lake and waking uo to 35 below and a screaming wind.

I carry a couple jugs of meltdown and a spare set of fuel filters all winter. run more #1 than I probably need and haven't had any problems, but just curious. any mods that help deal with the cold??

Tom,

I always carry a bottle of Diesel 911 (red bottle) with me. It has helped me avoid fuel gelling issues @ -20 below unplugged overnight and starting in the A.M. Also I make sure my batteries are no more than 4-5 years old.

I cycle the glow plugs 2-3 times before I crank the starter. I also change to the synthetic blend of oil to help cranking a cold engine.

The engine will cough, but will catch, and I let her warm up 5-10 mins before driving.

Hopes this helps,
