I'm wanting to cause my truck to turn over but not crank. I'm wanting to see if my tach moves while its trying to start. It takes about 2sec for my truck to start and the tach does not move right away. But its such a short time frame of starting to really tell. Any fuses or something I can take out to do this...without causing any damage?

I think fuse 30 is the fuse to the PCM and when it is out (or blown as with the case of a shorted fuel bowl heater) it will not start but will crank and crank......

The tach runs off of the CPS (Cam Position Sensor) so if the fuse is out the PCM can't read the CPS and no tach.

might want to double check that one...i know at some point that switched over and was true, but i wanna say it was around 2002? So yours still might be mechanical.

i would still go and pull fuse 30 ad crank it, and see if it jumps or not. if it does, its mechanical. if it doesnt, then dave is right and its controlled by the pcm.
