Hogs In Da Pen

Helped a buddy of mine build a pen and transfer the hogs. They will be fattened for the slaugher.

When's the BBQ? :)

How long did it take for them to dig up that part of the pen?

Gonna fatten them up, move them or what? What are you going to do with the little ones?

If I lived in TX, I'd probably never buy meat in the store with all the wild porky pie I'd have in the freezer.....

Wish I had a video camera that showed them digging. That is hard packed black dirt that they are digging in. 3-4 shovels with their nose and they were down 4inches. It was effortless. Now I know why I have such big hog digs out at my place.

What is very aggravating is that both sows were tagged...............meaning they had been caught before and turned loose by a game ranch down the road.

Hogs bread every six months beginning at the age of six months and can have litters of 2-10. Of the 8 little ones shown only one was a boar. Sooo......2 adult females and 7 female little ones in one year could produce an exponential number of additional hogs that dig up fields and destroy fences.

We trapped 2 sows and 5 youngins about 6 months ago. Well dangit if the sows came in pregnant...14 youngins later. And one of the youngin boys has now knocked up a young sow...We've been feeding them corn screenings, out of date bread and Lay's type chips, brownies and ....pork rinds. Anybody want some pig? If they've been penned up for awhile and fattened, I'm sure there wasn't any wild taste. However if you chase them for awhile, the taste would be pretty bad. I know it's that way with deer. If you can get a deer while still hunting, the meat tastes better than if the dogs have been chasing it.
