so when my truck is cold it makes a hissing noise, not like the turbo. less high pitch. its like a woooooooooosh like if you blow out your mouth. i dont exactly know how to describe it but its similar to a vacume leak on a car (not sure if diesels can have a vacume leak:dunno ) its only when cold and "luke warm" it ONLY does it under LIGHT throttle, if i tap the accelerator of let off completely it goes away. and every once in awhile it pulsates (woosh woosh woosh) and i seem to loose a little bit of power when it happens. i would say its a boost leak but its only when its cold and light throttle.

so anyway, does anyone know what im talking about???? or did i make you all dumber? lol.

Its your exhaust back pressure valve. It is a butterfly vlave in the outlet of you turbo that closes when the ambient temp and engine temp is cold to aid in quicker warmups. If you look under the exhaust housing side of the turbo you will see a actuator rod that goes into the housing. It can be unhooked by a plug in under the intake port of the compressor housing and this won't cause a problem having it unhooked they seem to warm up as fast too. I wired mine up to a couple of switches and made it into an exhaust brake, works great.

SP diesel makes a kit that wires it up as an exhaust brake, and TC lock up controler. Works over the Cruise buttons.
