I know Budro will get a kick out of this...

SO I finally go to install the new Tranny Cooler. I get the bumper off pull everythign apart, Find the Tranny cooler in my truck is allready between the condensor and the radiator..

Hmmm thats odd right? I look at it and um Damn its pretty BIG its the biggest Tranny Cooler I have seen, Maybe in 2003 7.3's they put a 6.0 cooler in there??

AT any rate I fugured put my tru cool in series any way.. So I rip my arm apart getting DOWN the back and over the fins to fit it SWEET its in on the front..

Unplug the out going from teh stock into the new filter and run my line to the tranny.. Crank it drive 4 mins and get out and YEP thats RIGHT that NEW tru-cool is LEAKING.. Not much but damn well enough..

RIP front end back off Rip arm up more and redo it all..

Moral of the story... Check the parts first..

The stock cooler is as wide as my condensor and 1/4 of the way tall... Very Odd....

:D :D Don't you remember Lance and I laughing when you asked if we would help, and we said we liked the skin on our arms.

The factory cooler is rather large, and thats the factory location for it. The factory V10 cooler is even larger and thats what most people change to. Take a look at my VBgarage pics and you'll see a photo of my factory cooler location, it works just fine stock, never been over 165 degrees.

I believe the trucks with the 6.0 have a cooler that is about 2.5 times bigger then the 7.3. I replaced mine with an 04 cooler last year. Made a huge difference.

Just for yucks, I have a pic here of theStock 7.3 and V-8/ V-10 Tranny Coolers. The small one is what the Powerstrokes came with from the factory. The larger one is what the V-8's and V-10's came with. I don't have a pic, but the 6.0 tranny coolers are supposedly even larger than the one for the gas engines.

My early 99 does not have the tranny cooler in the radiator. I have the larger cooler for the gas engines with an approx 12" square aux cooler to boot. I have never seen tranny temps above 195* in the extreme case, and usually don't exceed 165* normally when towing. Just non-towing driving around, the temp needle hardly comes off the peg on the cold side.
