'05 and up trucks have it programmed into the computer and it's a simple mod of hooking up 12v to a certain wire that is already provided by ford in the customer access bundle, there is also a hot in run customer access wire provided under the dash too.

I have mine set up so it goes into high idle automatically when certain conditions exist.

If I have the engine running and stationary, trans in park and my foot off the brake all I have to do to engage high idle is put the parking brake on. Cost me a whole whopping 2' of wire, 2 butt connectors, a little electrical tape and 10 minutes.

actually its an available <cheap> mod on any 6.0L

there are TWO options both require a simple 12v applied to one of
two different wires.

the conditions to enable either "idle" increaser are the same,
in park, foot off the brake (its reported that some years 05+ also
require the park brake set)

one is called BCP (battery charge protect)...the battery voltage is
monitored in this "mode" and if the voltage drops then the engine idles
up, in incremental steps <as needed> to keep the batteries charged.

the other mode is PTO (power take off)...in this mode as soon
as the 12v is supplied to the signal wire the engine rpm increases
to 1200rpm

in the winter its not all that necessary since the ambient temp
is monitored...if the temp is below 45* (f) the idle is increased slightly
(800rpm iirc)....the next temp. threshold im not certain of...maybe
30* (f) or slightly less...at that temp the idle is increased to 1200rpm.

there is an advantage to being able to control it in the winter...flip
the switch and it ramps up NOW.

part of the reason for idling is related to a condition called wet
stacking <more prone in cold weather> where the cylinders
dont get hot enough & allow some fuel to leak down the
cylinder walls & into the oil <diluting the oil>

extended idling of any kind should be avoided in the 6.0L

high idle

I like the one wire there but not to have more then 300 milli amps on it. Feed this to a coil ( this should only add 0.150 amps) of a relay and supply fused power to the relay that one wants to run anything from this wire. It is very surprising to me that a number of wires aren't brought out to do this to for ones own needs.
