Hi everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 2005 F350 crew cab 4x4. This is my first diesel but not my first Ford; I recently sold my 2004 F150 and before that I had a 1999 F150. I'm still a member of F150online.com and use to be on there daily....not so much now. I absolutely love the "new to me" truck and the power is amazing:D.

I have one concern though. I just took delivery of the truck yesterday afternoon. I bought it from a dealer in Utah and it was shipped to me here in Las Vegas. Since I picked it up the check engine light has been on. The truck does have a AFE intake and there appears to be an aftermarket exhaust on it but I'm not sure because it does not have any markings on the muffler and the tip is not chrome or fancy, just exhaust tubing. I stopped at Autozone and had them run the code on the CEL, which came back as -EGR system fault-The ECM has detected too much flow on the EGR system
I called the dealer immediately and explained the situation to him. I have a 3,000mile/3 month warranty on the truck and I understand the Super Dutys have the 100,000 power train warranty as well.
My question is when I bring the truck to my local Ford dealer, are they going to blame it on the intake or exhaust? The dealer I purchased it from said it shouldn't be a problem and my local dealer should take care of it for me.....but I know how "stealerships" are....they will find any way to get out of warranty work.
Is this CEL something I should worry about? The truck seems to run great and besides the light, has no problems.
:sorryfor the long introduction and I apologize if this is not the appropriate place for this question. Thanks

Welcome to SDD....

it will depend on the dealer, some are mod friendly, some aren`t. the biggest thing will be the intake, but neither one should not affect the egr operation....as for the egr code, it may just need to be cleaned(stuck open) or just replaced....either way not a hard job to do if the dealer reject`s the warranty claim....hope this helps

welcome...

you did not say how many miles the truck has. my guess is that the egr probably needs cleaning..... clean it and then see if the lite returns..

check out my 'slideshow' in the DIY section

p.s. pull it and clean it on a 'cold' engine.....do not get liquid or crud into the 2 holes on the underside of the valve...

Sorry, it has 55,000 miles. Maybe I should try that first, do you have a link on how to clean it and where the EGR is located? Thanks guys

cleaning the EGR is your best bet. Don't take the cheap way, get the gasket that Red provided the link for. Welcome to SDD by the way

if the egr gets pulled - new gaskets need to go in...i have heard stories of torn (shot) gaskets upon cleaing and re-installed to only throw codes...
