AE is home software... $2-400. MODIS (Snap-On) is more durable shop scanner....$3000. May be cheaper than that at some places.

rammertide- if you don't KNOW then sit on your hands and keep quiet.

grassman- generic code readers only see the generic Parameter ID's. there are 20-50 sensors that are generic, Federal type ones that the Az type boxes see. kinda like how the the emissions test programs work.

what you need access to is a code reader that support Ford's extended data range.
There are MANY OBD devices and programs out there that can perform these tasks.

hopefully your mechanic buddy will be able to set you straight.

A scanner will not run a compression test. You have to hook up actual mechanical equipment to the truck and only will that allow you to test the compression on each cylinder.
