I'm installing new speakers and a head unit and forgot to order speaker connector harnesses. (that's just what happens when I don't order from Crutchfield) I have no patience and am just cutting the wires.

Of course there is no marking for + - on the factory speakers/harness.

Is there a way to check for positive and negative with a meter?

Both wires seemed to work no matter what they were when I changed out my factory speakers.

Just cut 'em, touch 'em, and listen.

Yet another chance for everyone to laugh at me. After trying every setting on my meter for an hour or so. I realized all I had to do is look at the wiring harness for the head unit and match the colors. Never occurred to me before that the wires go direct to the speakers from that location. I just always looked at the spaghetti and assumed "there must be a junction between here and there"

If you take a 9 volt battery that is LOW on power (don't use a fresh one, it will have too much power) and properly connect the polarity, the cone will move away from the magnet

This will not work on tweeters however, because the cone does not move enough to notice.
