This noise is unbearable and I've heard that doing certain mods will reduce the clatter I hear in the cab. I can notice a distinct clacking noise on the driver's side front of the motor, sounds like a dull metal on metal, any thoughts on that? Maybe I've been more anal now that I've heard it, or maybe it just started, but I've noticed what seems to be an intermittent miss that I can feel within the truck at idle. There is no miss in the exhaust note, but if it were a gas motor, I would think that it's dropping a cylinder. Is there certain maintainance I should be doing (fairly new to the diesel realm) on this truck?
Thanks,
Jesse

Several things I can think of, A long lead #8 injector will quiet that noise somewhat, but I would start with the intank and prepump mods.

The pre pump mod is removing the two quick connect fittings infront of the pump, they leak air into the fuel and make the injectors noisy. Remove that section of rubber hose and replace it with a new one with hose clamps ( I used two per end)

In tank mods are modifing the pick up tube to avoid sucking air at 1/2 tank and less. Both will knock the noise down about 30-50%.

You can do the HPO crossover like ITP sell's. It will quiet the motor somewhat too. I have heard the 203 t-stat from Dieselsite does quite too, I had one on my 99 but didnt recall getting any noise rediction with it. I did get some better MPG.

What size hose is it? Is that all there is to it, remove hose, go buy fuel line and 4 hoseclamps and be done with it?

I cant remember... been a while, I think it was 3/8... diesel rated. And yes, thats about it...

Go get about a foot to 18" of both 3/8's and 1/4"... and some hose clamps.

AIrdog and Fass remove air from the fuel, Hutch mods do too but are a little cheaper.:D Replacing the dead-end fuel sytem purges the aerated fuel from the fuel rails.

I'm not sold on the Airdog and Fass. Yes they work but at only 10 micron filtration I can't see the reason for it with the other mods I mentioned.

So I either do the hutch or the external regulator? I could just do the hutch and get the same effect for waaaaay cheaper?

Hutch mods help, regulated return does wonders! Take it in steps if you can't do it all at the same time. The dead end system is the biggest problem, starves #8 for fuel since it's at the end of the rail and #6 fires just before it and uses up all the fuel, only thing left is aerated fuel for #8. I recommend doing both!

I did my own system but vendors have great kits for ~$450. A little FYI, if you ever plan on running biodiesel, none of the vendors hoses are rated for it. They would prolly be ok with a 20% blend but not higher than that.

I just found out that I could possibly have a van turbo, I have no EBPV, the intake diameter is smaller (all the early 99 crap) so I am thinking 450 is is waste of money if I am never to grow into needing all that fuel (correct me if you think it is worth the 450). I am for now just going to do all the free mods that will complement my Superchips Max programmer as well as an intake and exhaust. Correct me if I'm thinking thewrong way...
