I am having a new shortblock install. I also have My ebpv gutted and my pedistal welded over (ped mod) for easier in and out and because when I gutted the ebpv the hole where actuator came from leaked oil . The mechanic said when he noticed it " you have to have the wastegate or else something could get in there and put a hole in your piston". He also said running the setup I have will decrease performance.... He has done a good job but some of the mods I've learned about he doesn't really seem to understand when I ask him about. Is what he's saying true? He's kinda waiting on me and I'd like to tell him well thats not entirely true Because "...." Any help? Tate

put it together.you do not need the EBPV or the actuator rod.the OBS PSD do not have a waste gate.hes thinking the EBPV is a waste gate.all the EBPV does is force the engine to warm up faster in the winter by closing off the exhaust.does nothing but cause headaches.

oh andgutting the EBPV will increase peformance as it will lower your EGTs by about 50 degrees.

You answered your own question! While he is probably a very good and capable mechanic, I am sure he does not have the intimate and detailed knowledge as you will find here. Many of the mods are time proven.
Where did you get that pedistal modded, you do or did I get you one?

I am better with real names but when I saw GA, I thought that sounded familar.
If you want, have him call me direct, I would be glad to answer any of his questions of give any explanation he would like.
IH does make a 444 with-out the EBPV, like in a bus or wrecker truck, so the design of the EPBV is a Ford thing to meet federal emmisions on a truck under 10k gvw. And for normal people who do not have the habit of waiting for warm up (like a seasoned truck driver does). A cold diesel spews out a lot of emmisions.
Offer open,
cell 402-681-7141 I will be on the road in the morning, 5:30am till noon heading to MN be a good time to call.

I am just joking. I was real surprised by the reaction of the mech. After I explained to him 1. My model truck did not have a wastegate as he had claimed would screw up my piston if it was gone. 2.What for his whole career on my model truck was actually an EBPV and actuator and pedistal that only helped warm up the engine when the engine/oil was cold and not a wastegate. 3. Getting rid of the ebpv butterfly would actually improve egt's
He was receptive and acceptive of what i said. He learned something today. And once again I owe it all to the fine minds that are cool enough to not be threatened by us younglings who are really looking to learn.Kudos and thanks for all your replies. Thanks agAIN Rick its good to know thee are people you've never met who stand up for others when even the slightest question arises. There are good people around. And i've "met" a few here...Thank you again.Tate
