cracked filter cover trying to change filter. got cap to move about 15 deg but cant get it off. top filter was a breeze, this one is kickin my but. please help, need to get on road asap. thanks in advance
finally got cap off. ridiculous how hard to get off even with 18" channel locks. and fact that sensor plug receptor hits mounting bracket didnt help. oh well, $50 cap and i'll be on my way.
You may want to add a 36mm socket for the next time you decide to change your filter. The socket fits on the hex part of the cap. Works a lot easier than the 18" channel locks.
thanks dave, that option went out the window early on i'm afraid. cap so tite that socket twisted right off cheesy plastic. took at least 2 or so complete revolutions before i could turn cap without feeling like i was gonna pull something. oil filter was too tite for socket as well but not nearly as bad as fuel filter. pretty bad for 950 miles. maybe sat up for too long. appreciate the responses. rich
those caps arent designed to be tight, the oring is what seals them, not the torque of the cap. they just need to be screwed in until the shoulder on the cap "bottoms out" and really no tighter beyond that. this is often the reason why i can tell that i DIDNT do the last service on a vehicle when it comes into my shop.
Yep. Don't over-tighten and do use a dab of grease on the O-ring. Quigley 4 by 4 conversions are beautiful vehicles. 950 miles on an 04? If you need someone to drive that Van for a while just let me know.
long story but moving forward finally on build. hope to get new cap tomorrow and get everything back together. am gonna log as many miles as i can in next couple weeks as 3/36 will be up. oasis showed 1 yr earlier start (while still at dealer) than ws led to believe at dealer.
any way, hope to fiber glass cab closure i'm building (to close the rear of cab (E450 cutaway)) and install in next cpl days.
52" sleeper and tandem rear (6x6?) await
