What's in your proxy settings?

Tools, internet options
connections tab
LAN settings

Is anything checked? If so, try with all items cleared..

Sounds like it may be a firewall/content filter that may be blocking...like you say, since you can ping out, you are definitely getting out to the net for that traffic, so it's got to be something else blocking it.

Do any sites work? (I know this is the only one that counts...)

Sorry I'm not more help.

First try repairing IE by:

Click Start and then Control Panel (or Settings and then Control Panel)
Double click on Add-Remove Programs
Highlight Internet Explorer
Click Change-Remove tab
Select Repair Internet Explorer
Then click OK to confirm this
Once this has been completed restart your computer and then test your connection to see if you can now view webpages
If this does not work, it could be TCP/IP corruption.
To refresh tcp/ip with XP do this:

click on Start then Run and then typing command and then click OK. In the black command prompt type in netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and then press ENTER on your keyboard. It should return back to a blank line into which you can type exit to close the command prompt.
If you still can not load web pages,
Try re-installing Enternet Explorer. Using Ping shows that you have established a connection. Another handy tool is wsping.
A way to check if the firewall is causing you the problem is to see if Outlook "email" is working properly.

Good luck.
