Now that I have gotten an AFE stage II put on the truck, running with a 4" exhaust w/ no muffler and a SuperChips programmer. The air flow to the motor is a new noise but that would be normal i would think. But when running at 50-60 mph, and it's time for the motor to load up some, it sounds like it is missing and is going to fall on its face. It starts as a smooth turbo spool and then sounds like some sort of loud hissing surge. checked all of the hose connectors and they are tight - had one blow off before. Any ideas??? :dunno

sounds like turbo surge to me...which is completely normal. At about 50-60 mph, you have little to no boost and when you put a demand on it, it cant keep up. Now that you are able to pull more air in and push more out, your turbo cant keep up with the demand that is being put on it. do you have a boost gauge? If you do, you'll see it flutter.

The fix for this is to install an aftermarket compressor wheel (exhaust side) that will flow more air. Cost around a hundred bucks.

Compressor side, not the exhaust side.

ATS housing is also a sure fix, the WW sometimes works, sometimes does not.

A 1.00 exhaust housing will fix most surge too, and lower EGT's and get more HP...

I pulled the turbo. It took me 2.5 hrs but I had problems splitting the turbo in order to gain access to the compressor wheel.
