I'm curious if you notice the difference in sound quality, what's on side channels & do you get reception farther away from the source?

Ill be setting it up w/ this exact purpose in mind....conventional
pioneer installations only allow for a single tuner...conventional or hd tuner
not both...I'll be setting mine up <w/ a simple splitter> so that i can
flip back and forth to determine if theres any difference.

the add on p-bus (pioneer's add-on device connection) hd tuner was
only 99 bucks (retail) so i figured its worth the investigation...if it
isnt any better quality or reception strength ill simply return the hd tuner.

well i got home from my flight late friday evening...got the HD radio module
installed (like all of pioneers p-bus based devices its EASY).

the module is small...about the size of my hand and weighs in at just
over 1lb or so....i "hid" it up under the dash on the passenger side...
it fit w/ room to spare.

the audio quality of HD radio is good, no make that GREAT compared to
conventional "FM"....AM station quality seems improved even more so.

the module automatically switches between HD & "analog" if the HD signal
becomes weak

I havent figured out all the "programing" of the unit...which means it does,
apparently, require reading of the manual.

Im a bit surprised its not easier to program in my stations...but again
i havent yet read the manual.

id rate this "worth the 99 bucks" it cost

FINAL Update...

Having been able to listen to and "play" w/ the HD add-on tuner a bit more...

Im further impressed w/ the audio quality...its COMPLETELY obvious when the
head unit automatically switches from conventional signal to HD.

The HD signal is VERY IMPRESSIVE and a noticeably HIGHER sound quality.

Ive since discovered that the stations can be programed (up to 6) in a
conventional manner (hold the button down & its programed to that number),
the documentation makes it seem like only 3 stations can be programmed or
that there are extra steps (neither is true)

i have a similar hd hookup with my kenwood. the sound quality of the hd signals are obvious. the extra stations on top of the already existing ones are nice to.
