Hard to start

Ok, my girl has hit 99,562 miles and she is falling apart. First the trans and now she almost didn't start. I had her plugged up all night and just went out to start her and nothing. I had to cycle the glow plugs a few times just to get her to start and boy she sounds bad. I also noticed that the normal hum I would hear when I turned on the key was gone and now it is a light off and on hum. What is the hum? I always thought it was the glow plug relay because it would always quit just before the glow plug light went off. Any ideas?

Disregard guys, I checked and a GFI outlet had kicked. I am still interested in the humming sound though.

DOH! I'm thinking that humming sound is either the fuel pump or, depending on where the sound is coming from, the vacuum pump.

Hum should be the electric vacuum pump. It runs the heater/air conditioning controls.

is the noise coming from underneath you? then its the fuel pump.
i just went thru this w/ mine, dealer replaced it and the filter (not the engine one tho). noise did not go away - they say it is 'normal'
