In the 30 degree mornings my truck will take a 5 second turn of the key, let it go, then it'll start right up, that is after she romps a few seconds, blows a huge white cloud of smoke, and pisses off my neighbors.

:D i love my truck

You should hear my Nova when I crank it to go to work at 6:00am:cool: No choke on the car, have to let it idle for about 3 minutes, with 2 1/2" dual exhaust, flowmaster 40 series dumped, and a very large cam

All glow plugs on passenger side were .5 to .6 ohms, the drivers side was from the back 1.7, 1.7, infinite, 1.6. is it normal to have that much of a range from side to side, suppose one side was replaced and the other not? I know the infinite one is bad, but the others seem to be at both ends of the range.

Have you owned the truck since new? If not, I would assume that at some point in time, all the GPs in one bank were replaced, but not the other. If you have, and have not ever replaced GPs, then I am sort of at a loss as to why one side is so different.

I would replace them all on the side that has "infinite" and it appears that you may be cahnging your GPs 4 at a time for the rest of your truck's life, unless you want to prematurely replace one side to start over with all new?

I need to check my GPs for sure. I am spewing smoke on cold (and I am talking -6 farenheit, so I think this falls under Crumm's definition of cold) starts. It was -20 with windchill the other day. She started just fine, but killed every insect in a 2 mile radius. My neighbors all stand around making fun of me every morning because I am smoking and rattling so much... :D

only had it three weeks, came from texas at some point. how is changing the gps? is the valve cover removal ( aside from the wiring harnes in the gasket) the same? do I need a new gasket when I pull the valve cover? do I use sealer and or form a gasket type material? any advice, tips or tricks of the trade?

Swapping the GPR is a piece-of-cake 10 minute job.

POKE HERE and scroll down a bit for a complete glow plug-swapout kit. It's not the cheapest you can get (Motorcraft plugs from Autozone and the UVC/gaskets from an IH dealer would be the cheapest), but it is all good stuff to get if you're swapping both banks of GP's.

No, you wont need to replace the gasket under the VC, treat it gently though, use no sealer or form-a-gasket goop either. Make sure both sides of the gasket are clean and both surfaces are clean as well upon reinstallation. The GP's them selves are not hard to change, be gentle pulling the plugs wires off the tops of them and as long as the GP's arent carboned up, they will come right out. Horror stories are broken GP's stuck in the head.
