solicting comments good and bad on an affordable smaller handgun that a lady that can shoot a 44 mag and .40 well. would feel comforatble with loaded up and in the console.

shes not an annie oakley or dirty harry, just needs a good reliable hangun for snakes and otrher varmits that may threaten her when i am not around.
been looking at one of these babies.

Robert, go down to Pg 19 and check out the Lady Smith's in the link you provided. I dont know how familiar your wife is with handguns, but a revolver in the Lady Smith may be more suitable for the tasks you described (snakes and varmints). If she is a pro then maybe sticking with the autoloader is the way to go.

Robert, if "snakes" is not a euphamism, some sort of shot shell would be better. I recently saw an article on a new revolver that will take a .410 or a regular bullet. I dont remember the caliber. I think the article was in American Rifleman within the last few months. If I can find it I'll pm it to you.

A snake is going to be hard to hit with a slug. especially if you consider the freakout factor.

"snakes" = anything wishing or trying to do harm to her, may or may not have two legs.
this new one needs to be free of encumberances,
we got a great shotgun .410 for slithering critters old style m you have to pull the firing pin back to fire one shot, no pump.

nah, them little snubbies are a ***** in the recoil dept, even with .38Spl loads...
something like the ol' reliable L-frame (model 10 or model 60) be much more manageable...

I was wanting a Taurus "Judge?" to carry in the truck, but after the write up came out about how good a gun they were everyone jacked up the price by another $200. or more.

I would suggest going to a gun dealer or show and "try on" a few for fit.

When I was in the military, we had to shoot the .38. I hated it, my hands were too big to get a good comfortable grip on the thing. As a result, my accuracy was lessened.

When I was shopping last spring, I went to Gander Mtn and tried a few on for size. Then I narrowed that down to a certain caliber based on affordability of ammo. I found a nice used Taurus PT-101 that Gander Mtn had for a real good price.

I also bought a Pachmayr grip.

So now I have a weapon that fits my hand very well and now do a better than average job of putting holes in the target.

If you want Mrs. PB to be able to defend herself against "snakes", make sure it's something that fits her.

I have a Taurus 92, (had it since the 80's). It's a great gun. Rachel loves to shoot it. I would highly recommend a Taurus to anyone.
