hey,

i had an older 86 f150. on the older body styles (80-96) the firewall rotted out and when i stepped on the clutch the clutch master cylender came away from the firewall. the easiest way for me to figure this out was to have someone else step on the clutch for me and thats when i saw this. this might or might not help you, but definitely let me know if it does.

I checked last night and the bushing is bad again. I think I will try one of the fixes Crumm listed. I looked at the ebay part and they sent me directions last year for it but the directions are poorly written and unclear. I think for now I'll do the bushing and the fluid to see if it stops.

Thanks for the suggestions.

They are poorly written but if you read them a half a dozen times they become much more clear. Really a easy thing to install once you re-read a few time. Nice to never have to deal with the bushing again..

crumm, I followed those directions with the e-clip but it keeps popping off. Are you sure those sizes are correct? The 5/16 washers will not go over the post. I had to grind them to get them on. I cant find a drill stop so Im kind of stuck for the moment.

Many guys have followed those instructions with good luck. I wonder if they changed the rod size in 97?

I am beginning to think there was some sort of change. I gave up on the e-clip. It kept popping off. I found a drill stop at Lowes and that did not work either. The allen screw would not hold and it too would pop off. I guess Monday I will buy another bushing and go stock.

thanks anyway

I got a drill stop from Lowes but i had to grind one side down so the set screw would go in far enough to fit in the groove.

I agree--I had the same problem--Bushing
Also I put my tranny into #4 prior to R--usually works:D

funny, I do exactly that and it has helped. I replaced the bushing with a new one yesterday after clipping the 1st new one. I might try to grind the drill stop I got but dont have a grinder so it wont be any time soon.

I also thought of drilling a hole in the post and sticking a codder (cotter?) pin through with a metal washer over the top of the bushing. Havent tried - tight area and may not be able to get in there to drill.
