I've found that frequently miltary discounts aren't extended to veterans/ retirees, just active duty, guards and reserves.

I guess it depends on where you live. Kind of sucks they don't extend the same thing to retirees, I would just ask for it and just show your ID card. I can understand not giving it to someone that did a few years and got out but a retiree should be in the same class as a Active, Reserve or NG.
