You know, they have these things called cell phones nowadays. :

Seriously though, when I was growing up my neighbor (old boeing engineer) had a HUGE square antenna in his back yard. At least 60 feet high, IIRC. He was always talking on that radio at night. He was so into it, he installed a mobile unit in his truck. iCom, I believe.

I have to hand it to HAMs, though. You guys can get through when no one else can.
