Yes, my wife and I bit the dust today and traded the 04 Expedition for a new 05 500 SEL. Took a terrible beating on the trade, but we now have a decent sized vehicle that will be very economical. The Expy was getting around 15 mpg, eating us alive since we drive about 2000 miles a month. The 500 is rated at 21 in town and 29 on highway, we figure we'll get about 23-25 with our driving, and save close to $150.00 a month on fuel. In addition, the 500 is silver, so we have a matched set of vehicles (at least in color). If Ford didn't have the "Family Plan" we probably couldn't have gotten it. The 500 was $100.00 below invoice.

The 500's have caught our eye also just were out of room in the stable currently otherwise that's a potential future vehicle for us also :cowboy:

My wife was looking at one to replace her 96 Thunderbird. Let me know how you like it.

Thanks Bill. Only a little over 24 hours and we are WELL PLEASED. We're going to go as far as we can on the dealer's gas. Got 209 miles on the tank and the needle is about halfway between 3/4 and 1/2 on a 19 gallon tank. The only two options we got (over and above the standard equipment) were the sunroof and leather interior. About the gas, I had to go to the McKinney Super Walmart (now the old one since they're opening the new one Wednesday) and gas was 2.15 and diesel was 2.21/2.18. I was reallly shocked as both those prices are anywhere from 14 to 20 cents cheaper than anywhere else. We always used 89 or 93 octane in the Expedition and the Crown Vic (before the Expy), but are going to go with the 87 octane in the 500. If you get a chance to drive a 500, do so, you'll be "hooked". The front seats really are taller than other cars, and the rear seat has only one inch less legroom than my 250 Crew Cab.

Puddle, will do. As you can see in my reply to Bill (CHP Mustang), we're really pleased. Last week, we drove a white Limited with tan leather, and saw a silver SEL with an add on spoiler on the rear deck. We asked the salesman to look for a silver SEL without the spoiler and they got ours in the next day. The SE model is okay, just doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" that the SEL and the Limited have. If you're really serious about getting one, I'd do it before August 1 while the employee pricing is being offered. Your best bet is to go to a fleet salesman, they can show you the factory invoice. It has the prices for the different Ford plans, the one that's being offered is the A-Z plan (that's what we were told). Ours ended up being about $100.00 under factory invoice.

The 500 is doing great!!! I filled it up for the second time Friday. The first tank got 22.22 mpg, this one got 23.14 mpg. We're wanting to take a trip in it to see what the highway mileage will be. It seems to be like my diesel, keep the rpm's at 2000 or less and the mileage will be okay. I went to Louisiana Thursday, a 600 mile round trip, got 20.7 mpg. The PSD already has 83,000 miles on it.

We just got home from a 600 mile round trip to my mother-in-law's house in Louisiana. We filled it up over there at $2.019 a gallon and got 26 mpg. The car has the message center on it and all the way back to TX, it was showing 30-31 mpg (not always accurate). We've got around 280 miles on the tank and only used a bit over 1/4 tank (19 gallon capacity). Gonna fill up later Sunday to get the accurate mileage. We actually drove around 65 mph most of the way there and back and kept the rpm's at 1800-2000. Filled up today (Sunday afternoon), got 31.23 MPG. The EPA mileage rating on the window sticker stated 21 in town, 29 on the highway.

Got an update for you on the Five Hundred's mileage. Filled up today, got 24.8 mpg. It's got 4500 miles on it in a little over a month. Guess you can see that it doesn't sit in our driveway very much. It's been getting anywhere from 21 to 24 mpg on every tank. One of my co-workers looked at it Friday and said that it reminded him alot of his Nissan Maxima. Plus the Five Hundred is several thousand cheaper than a Maxima. Also, if you're still looking, the Ford Family Plan has got a couple of weeks left on it. It's a good deal.
