Goose neck or not!

Anybody had any experience converting a fifth wheel camper from a conventional hitch to a goose-neck hitch? I just bought a "new" 2001 F350 7.3 dually with the gooseneck hitch already installed and am investigating converting my camper to use it. Any suggestions are appreciated!

The problem isn't with the truck, but with the trailer. You can risk cracking the frame on the trailer by making the conversion from fifth-wheel to gooseneck. Most manufacturers of fifth-wheel trailers will void a trailer's warranty if the pin box is modified from a fifth-wheel to a gooseneck. It puts too much strain on the pin box, say the manufacturers.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but the trailer frame is not designed for the added stress. Better to put a fifth-wheel hitch on the truck.

BUT.. If you Do go with a Goose neck hitch.. Replace the complete Pin Box assembly.. from where it bolts to the trailor frame, with a complete Gooseneck hitch assembly.

NOT.. with one of those "A'dapter Kit" thingy's that latches/clamps/morf's to the Pin and it's plate. The pin and it's plate wasn't.. designed to >distribute<.. those kinds of load stress's.... Long Term. (There In.. Lie's the Warranty Issues)
