350k is the avg end of the service life on a IDI. But I've seen many go longer than that and a few die sooner. I pull a 15k GN with my '92 on a commute between Kali and TX. I like the simplicity of mechanicals and the truck has no problems keeping up with others. Also, it's not very stock either. I've also completely rebuilt the powertrain shortly after purchase. I know what I have as a result. honestly, the cost of purchase and refit is equivalent to the cost of a OBS psd. The choice is yours.
Footnote...
I see two posts in the IDI section and one is talking a potential IDI owner out of a purchase and the other has got nuthin' to do with IDI's.......I'm going back to the basement.

Thats good info...I think Im going to look for a 95-97 PSD.

You're going to be working on that truck too. For starters, they're gutless until you IC and bomb it. I'm driving a '97 factory stocker right now and it has no balls under 2500 rpm.

Its pretty common knowledge that the IDI does well in the 1800 RPM range and in stock un-bombed mode is pretty weak, and the PSD builds its best HP north of 2500. IC isnt a must, I had my 95 mildly bombed and EGT's werent a problem as long as RPM's were maintained.

350,000 miles is something to stay away from. Find a 7.3 PSD and you will be happy. I bought a 97 F-superduty 175,000 miles (it was rough) for 1,500 bucks. Put about 5,000 grand in it and you got something.

Ok, like my caption under my name says, Im diesel stupid....so whats IC and Bombed???

Rob
IC = inter cooler. Its a device to cool the charge air coming off the turbo before in is introduced into the engine. The 94-97 model year PSD's were not factory inter cooled.

Bombed = modified, there are many degrees of modification available from simple inexpensive tweaks on up to injectors, turbos, chips, fuel systems etc etc...
