My aviation maintenance program is in recess for the summer.

Apparently a few years back the FAA discontinued the requirement for licensed A&P mechanics to know how to weld. As such, that bit of training was eliminated from the program at school. But it just so happens there is a basic welding course being taught during the summer semester. It only runs for the first half of the semester and Mon-Thurs. (Campgrounds & long weekends, here I come.)

I've done some arc/stick welding but it's all been self taught, trial & error, never had any real training. Because of that, some of my welding jobs, while they get the job done, are really, really fugly. So I figured WTH, might as well go for it for personal & professional reasons.

Besides, I'll still be done by 4th of July and have most of the summer off. ;):sweet

Oh, and BTW in case any of y'all are wondering how the aircraft maintenance thing is going, I've pulled down a straight 4.0 GPA for the 1st & 2nd semesters.

I've always wished I had better welding skills.. but my Budz is a certified welder guy.. So I'm only a six-pack away from any welding, that might be seen by the Public.. ;):):lmao

Teacher's pet, teacher's pet! :D

Ha ha!!

The opposite is more accurate. I give the professors more sh*t (either jokingly or otherwise) than anybody else in the class. But because I'm older than 2 of the 3 instructors, they don't retaliate like they would some of my younger classmates. After all, what can you say to a smart ass who's at or near the top of the class?? :D:D

I think they realize also that the difference between them & me is background. I was chatting with one of my instructors one day. I mentioned that if the purpose of the school was to turn out B-52 tailgunners instead of FAA licensed aircraft mechanics, I'd be in the front of the classroom and he'd be sitting in the student seats. He got sort of a thoughtful look on his face, nodded his head and said "you're right". It might be my imagination, but since then it seems to me that he hasn't been quite as overly critical of my class work like he was 1st semester.
