Let me know, Bart. I can do this weekend (even Friday), but not next. Other than that, I'm pretty open. Depending on my problems I may HAVE to do it sooner rather than later.

How NOT to break off the tip of the glow plug

It seems clear a common NO NO is to break off the tip of the glow plug when you pull the original one out. What do you do to prevent this- not crank on the wrench two hard, or something else? It seems that if you unscrew the plug it should just back out with no danger of breaking off. Where am I wrong?

Trying to understand...

Thanks,

i just did my glow plugs and relay this weekend, i too dont see how it'd be toooo easy to snap the tip off one of the glow plugs, the only way i almost thought i'd break one of mine is wrenching em on toooo tight but to remove and replace mine i used a little help from one of the guys on here, i dont remember who though, sorry bout that!! lol...anyways i used a small piece of vaccum line to finish twisting the glow plug in and out, worked well....mine has started quite well but she had 90k on the original ones so i figured i'd change em, i thought the wait to start light was hangini on a bit long, but i guess its just the temp outside, it is usually around 15 to 20 degrees here lately. But it fires right the hell up no matter the temp after the light goes out.

Carbon build up on the end of the glow plug can be large enough to prevent it from being extracted from the head. Your efforts in muscling it out could break the tip off.
