What's the difficulty level on these? I plan on testing them this week to see where the weak link is located. With the chillier temps, she isn't starting smoothly in the mornings. If the plugs are the culprits, I know I'll have to be careful not to break them off, but how difficult is it to pull them? Also, anyone have a ball-park price for the parts? I haven't looked into it, yet. :thanks

glow plug relay was about $80 if I recall correctly... it's right on top of the engine and took about ten minutes to replace...

they actually sent me over a glow PLUG first... was about $25.

I replaced my glow plugs along with my fuel injectors.

Replacing the glow plugs isn't hard, kind of like replacing a spark plug.  (I know, I know, it's only an example)

Remove the wire and remove the glow plug using a deepwell socket (10mm if I recall). Make sure the whole glow plug comes out and the tip doesn't break off. Then screw in the new one and replace the wire.

Overall, removing the injectors and glow plugs was a far less PITA than the valve covers were.

they are not hard to replace at all, ,you will have to remove the valve cover but it has re-usable seal, a short extrension and a deep 10mm socket, and a fairly strong magnet to pull the glow plug out of the hole they sit in. the injectors DO NOT need to be removed just disconnect the electrical connector to gain access to the glow plug and you will probally need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the connector off the glow pug, on a scale of 1-10, i would put it at a 4. good luck :sweet

the plugs normally cost between $8-10 at most of the auto parts stores when i checked last.

I would still check them first by ohming out the connector pins. my problem is not the relay or the glow plugs (although one was questionable, all the rest were in spec.) I ended running a manual switch for the relay. has to be the pcm or the barometric pressure sensor that is my issue.

Come check my stuff out, too. I've got hard starts now as well. You know where I live and the truck will be in front. Call ahead and I'll have the keys waiting. :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

YES! Bart and I are in need. With these and the tranny issues, the truck has me nervous. And, we both need WWs, too!:thumbs

Bart,

I'll definitely help you with yours, once I get mine fixed!;)

We need another wrench day for sure. I'm considering a Friday off one of these weeks so I can get some stuff done.
