Gear numbers

When I was towing my boat last summer somehow I made the gear numbers appear on the dash. It's not the numbers for when you're in manual. I liked it, but eventually it turned itself off. Last night I was driving around and they came back. I have no idea what I did. I looked through the manual and didn't find anything. Does anyone know how to turn them on and off? I you can see them in the right side of the message center.

When in D, just hit the + button on the column shifter. This turns them on and off.
