i wanna epoxy the garage floor (3.5 bays) BEFORE
anything goes in the garage...the house is new...

im interested in opinions (good / bad) about which
brand epoxy to use.

im interested in doing this myself but i may not have enough
time...if you have suggestions for contractors in NW Houston/Tomball
area id be interested in knowing those too.

im interested in ANY suggestions from COLOR to coating types....DIY
or otherwise & personal experiance/1st hand knowledge is welcome...

I just talked to a guy at Home Depot yesterday about the epoxy kit they sell (cant remember the name but there is only one). He said he used it and his only complaint was that the flaky chips you put down after application for the speckled look are starting to come up. You dont have to put them down at all though. I want to do this too and plan on skipping the specks.

Home depot kit covers ~550 sq. ft. for $99.

You can solve that problem by applying polturethane over the chips. My mother had her garage floor done professionally and thats what they did.

everything im reading about anti skid or flakes is nearly 100% negative
and most are saying leave it out, that cleaning (both brooms & water/squeegie)
work BEST w/out flakes of any kind.

some go as far to say even creepers/chairs w/ solid wheels HATE these
flakes and perform poorly when rolled across the floors w/ anti-skid etc.

most ive read is that the floors are not as slippery as any expected
and if they are its in isolated spots (not like the entire floor has
something spilled on it)...and the ease of clean up W/OUT flakes far
out weighs any potential benefit from adding anti-skid or flake material.

some apparently use MOPS to clean up & w/ flakes this is IMPOSSIBLE/HUGE
MISTAKE (wind up w/ cotton stuck to floor flakes etc)...

I had to call #1 son
to make sure
his floor was done with the kit from homey D, almost 2 1/2 years ago.
biggest challenge was getting the concrete CLEAN, then drying it, they live in Florida, humidty was a bear,
but it has held up real well, especially to thinners and solvents from painting morotrcycles stuff.
it has no flakes jsut plain grayish color, not slick when i walked on it wet. and one more durability issue
I had my 02 daully backed in there one night looking for some oil and charge air leaks.
I had him up under the hood standing on a milk crate, as i applied throttle in drive, to twist the engine some, I broke four tires loose and black marked the floor :D :D
son jumped purt near through the ceailing when it broke free trying to get away , I spit beer out of my nose, :roflmao :roflmao :D

Sherwin Williams has an epoxy system called Armorseal 1000HS. It is a two part system that is supposed to be pretty good stuff. :sweet

I did mine about 87 years ago. The front garage was original 20 something years old. Had a tough time getting it clean enough and over the past years it has come off. Only thing that will attack the epoxy is brake fluid. Everyting else did not bother it. Well except welding and cutting sparks.
The back garage has held up well, the concrete was only about 10 years old and never had any vehicles on it. It sure makes cleaning the floor a snap.
