Fuel Reg. O-Ring

Can I use a regular black o-ring to replace the blue/green o-ring in the fuel regulator cap? Or, is it some special o-ring for diesel fuel?

The regular black o-rings will not hold up to diesel for very long. If you are in a bind and need to get it on the road you can use one but it will deteriorate rapidly. When I repaired the drain valve in my fuel bowl the only place here that I could find the proper size o-ring that was also rated for fuel was at Caterpillar.
