This is not really a question, but a statement. I had my fuel bowl cap work loose on me yesterday. The fuel was leaking like a SOB, and sprayed Diesel every where. I last changed the filter about 10k ago and have had no problem untill yesterday. i lost about 1-2 gallons, and at $3.30 per, that is not something I wish on anyone. so FYI, make sure that thing is TIGHT!!!

I have a leak happening when the engine is running. Seems to be coming from the fuel pump and running out a tube that goes from the fuel pump to the front of the engine block. I talked with a mechanic and he said to open the yellow valve on the back of the fuel pump, that this line was to drain moisture from the fuel pump. Any ideas why it's leaking and what needs to be done to fix it? Thanks

just a shot, if the leak is coming out of that tube in the front, check the valve switch (yellow one), maybe it is not closed all the way. If it is the source and the valve is closed, it could be leaking due to some problem with it. The valve is on the bottom of the fuel filter bowl and not on the pump. It could also be a pump going south on you but I would check the filter bowl first.

It is not likely the bowl itself but possibly where the valve goes in. Im not sure if there are gaskets/orings or not. I would think so but not sure. Whether or not you can replace it, I cant tell you. Ive never tried but I doubt it is too difficult. What year truck do you have? Are you pretty mechanically inclined?

black_cloud - I had a similar experience about 3 years ago. Fortunately fuel was much cheaper then! I lost 1/4 tank and had a huge mess. I have since started double checking my lid 24 hours after replacing the filter to prevent it.

Thanks for all the advice, the leak is fixed! Got o-rings at the auto parts store (1/8" thick x 1/2" O.D. x 1/4" I.D.). Actually had to buy a bag of eight so I've got extras for next time.:thumbs
