I have an '03 F-250 PS. My question is, does my particular vehicle just have the one fuel filter that is located at the top of the engine?
I took my truck to the local dealer for a service visit and asked them to change the fuel filters (I think the charge was around $35.00) and they showed me this little dinky paper element. I didn't think to ask them if that was the only fuel filter. How stupid. Help!

Welcome to SDD!

Since this was posted in the 7.3 forum I guess you have one of the last 7.3s.:D

Yes there is only one filter, on top of the engine. It's a "water absorbing" type that should be changed every 10-15k miles. $35 at the dealer isn't bad from my shopping at the dealers here. They are proud of those filters and want $50+ just for the filter. I get the same Racor online for 18 bucks I think.

There's a mixing chamber on the fuel pick up that mixes aerated return fuel with fresh from the tank. There are screens in the chamber that I've never heard of people replacing. Some people have plugged the screens with a bad load of fuel. Many people do whats called the Hutch mod and remove the mixing chamber so they don't get the aerated fuel back to the injectors. If you remove the chamber it's a good idea to add a good pre-pump filter to stop any trash or water from eating your pump.
