The best place for maintance information is your owners manual. There are two fuel filters; one on top of the engine and one under the truck below the driver's seat on the frame rail. You need a 36mm socket to safely remove the filter tops. Drain the HFCM (Horizontal Fuel Condition Module) or filter housing. Drain the HFCM by removing the plug at the bottom of the housing. Use a big drip pan or you will have fuel all over. Then remove the filter top and change the filter. Replace the plug. There is a much better plug at FumotoValve.com - Engine Oil Drain Valve - the bast way to change oil. Then change the top filter. Purge the air by grinding the key for 30 seconds and wait a few minutes and grind the key again. The truck should start in the third grind or the fourth grind. Drive it for 5 miles to make sure you have all the air out of the system.

Also, make sure to get ONLY Motorcraft, Ford or IH Filters for this.... and in this paticular case the Fram is ok.... they are all made by RACOR. The other companies do not put the water block membrane on the primary filter. If the larger filter that goes in the frame rail module does not have a membrane over the pleats, meaning the pleats are the only thing you see, DO NOT USE IT. This is the water seperator for these engines... if there is no membrane, it will let water through into the injectors which is VERY BAD.... like crossing the streams bad!!!!! I have read a couple of posts where the WIX filter (which does not have the membrane) had let water throught and when removed acted just like wet cardboard......
