ok i was going along everything was fine then the fuel filter light came on, and the truck lost some power. i was on the rear tank guage showing about a 1/4 tank this is the first time i ran this tank since puchasing in sep.06. i switched it to the front tank, light goes off and runs fine for the rest of the trip. is the light for the filter on the top of engine? Or is there another that could trigger the light ? i have to assume theres a filter between the rear tank and switching valve right? any ideas? thanx

The light on the dash is for the filter in the engine compartment. I do not think there is a filter between the tank and the front of the truck (at least haven't seen one on mine)

It's also possible that your sending unit is fixing to bite the dust, but that wouldn't necessarily cause the filter light to come on.

Did you put any additives in the fuel? Is the front take the same batch?

i have been putting anti jelling cetane booster in both tanks. the rear tank had quarter tank and i added 5gal s to what was there i don't know how old the fuel in the tank was the truck had been sitting for a couple years. could be some condensation in the tank as well.

this happened to me w/ my old 90 idi 7.3. all I did was open the fuel filter dump in some anti gell fluid close it back up and put the rest in the two tanks. then all ya do is run the hell out of it for a while and it should fix it. if indeed that is the problem of gelling fuel.
