Sorry if this is repedative, but I searched and didn't find the answer i need. I tried changing the filters in the 06 6.0 today. I say tried because the drain on the HFCM never stopped draining. I pulled the plug and let it drain while I changed the small filter. 5-10 Minutes later it's still draining. So I only did the upper intil you guys tell me what I did wrong.

I have changed the filters on the 03 6.0 and never have this happen.

I get about a quart out of mine before it runs out and stops on its own.

I was creeping up on the 1 gallon mark when I stopped. Is there an order they should be done in small first? second? OK to have both out at once?

I usually do the bottom one first, and while it is draining, I then change the top one. Go back and finish changing the bottom one.
The order is not important.

Ive heard LOTS of folks say they get a large amount (more than
a quart +)

but ive never gotten more than about a 2 pints :D at the most ;)
i just drained mine this past sunday and changed both filters...everything
looked nice and clear (no water or dirt)...its been more than 6mo.
since ive drained it or changed the filters (back in May)...longer
than id like to go, but w/ the move and everything else goin' on i
just havent been able to get to it.

The tank was between 1/2 & 3/4 full, would that make it drain more?

If you elevate rear of truck [back it up car ramps] and remove fuel tank cap it helps. I like to swap mine out about every 17,500 with maybe a 1/4 tank of fuel in tank. Never had more than about a quart to drain out this way. When you swap out lower filter, you will notice a small plastic tab used to properly seat filter. Its a good idea to insert new filter into HFCM and spin it while pushing in until you feel it seat, then install cap. Some owners have had problems sticking filter in, then just screwing cap on, and damaging the filter while creating a nice air leak. Good luck, and wear something you don't mind throwing out. :roflmao

not on mine...i was full to the filler neck this past sunday
when i drained & changed...

ive done it w/ the cap on & off, full & near empty...ive drained it
w/ the tail higher than the front & the front higher than the tail
(driveway inclined)...none seem to have any impact.

the amount that drains off never seems to be much different...
no more than 2pints at the most.
