I took a trip over the weekend and went approx 435 miles and the display said I only had 34 miles left to empty. I went and filled up and it took 30.6 gallons which was good but my question is since I have a 38 gallon tank why did the display say I only had 34 miles left. My vehicle is a 06 dually cc 8ft bed. Has anyone else had an issue like this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Two possibilites...

1., your gauge is off.

2., you did not fill the tank all the way up.

i don't have a lie-o-meter but awhile back i filled up at a station that was low on fuel, it took 28 minutes to fill up my 29 gal. tank. i usually fill up w/in hours of the fuel lite goin off. my ave. fill up is usually 24-26 gallons. but not this time. since the pump was running super duper slow it clicked off with 30.6 gallons in it. i did the old double take. it has never happened since. and i have no clue, just an idea, that since it was going so slow it filled up every possible space w/ fuel...:dunno

i went to the dealership on because my check engine light came on saying that my fuel data sensor was having an error. so i took it to ford and they said that they didnt know which sensor was bad. so the looked it wasnt the sensor it was build up on the sensor from running ulsd in my truck i guess for has recently started having problems with this and the told me to use a chevron diesel additive to my fuel every three months to clean my tank.

ULSD Problem

My experience happened this Thursday when I took my F350 to the dealer for a problem with the fuel gage showing too much fuel in the tank. It started off by showing an empty tank after a fill-up. It registered over-full after turning the engine off for a while and restarting. From then on it registered too much fuel in the tank. The service tech said that the sensor was bad and that the problem was probably related to ULSD as they had three other trucks there that day for the same problem. He said that the sensor was not always bad and that there was an additive that would fix the problem. I think Bio-Diesel may be the cure, but using it will void my warranty.

Welcome Haul_My_Home, that is the frist ULSD troubles I have heard of. I don't know if Bio will cure your probelm, but I run it in my 04. I don't think much of Ford's stand on Bio anyway.
