I have replaced both of the hubs on my 2000 and never removed a tie rod. Oh, and it took me about 2.5 hours a side, but, I was not pushing it. It does help to have a full set of air tools.

I've changed so many of those sealed hubs that I've managed to get it down to about an 1:20 per side.

I never remove the tie rods either (unless I'm replacing the ball joints.)

If there is still a good bit of play in your knuckles, you might be due for a set of ball joints as well.

Ball Joints are fine, I had some play here. Don't know, might be normal.

Made it easier to get to the nuts on the back side of the assembly. Didn't take just a few minutes to knock the tie rod loose.

Also made it easier to check the ball joints.
