We have 4 cameras up and she (the officer) was on stake out all last night but they were a no show. She is doing it again tonight, and waking me up to help before the authorities arrive.

So did you get them?

I would like to hear that we both got a happy ending. Yesterday the car that was hauling the snowman vandals broke down right in front of our house. We got home from town and the car was parked right in front of the house with the flashers on. I of course first started looking for the little #!($@^% but they were no where around. A little while later they came along in another car and opened up the hood on the piece of crap that was broken. I strolled out there and asked what was up. They explained that it just died. I simply then said "well I guess what comes around goes around eh"? They looked very puzzled and I simply glanced over at the neighbors house and said "they use to have a nice snowman in there yard, any idea what happened to it?" I got the strangest look from them. As I walked away I mentioned that I thought the street might need a little snow removal(I plow the street from time to time). I also mentioned that there piece of crap might just get pushed into the snowbank if it was in my way. It was amazing how fast they towed that rig out of here. I did get the plate number but I doubt anything can be done a week after the fact, what proof do I have? I guess a video surveillance system is the way to go.

As bad as the "punks" are, sometimes they grow up and turn into decent people.

Right after I got hired at the Sheriff's Office - about 8 years ago, a 16 year old punk stole the metal hereon bird out of our 8 foot metal bird sculpture that was in the corner of our front yard. It would have cost 900 or so dollars to replace (quote from the artist who made it). I never replaced it because of the cost and fear that some punk would just break it off and steal it again.

Last year in the early spring, I was out working on something in the front yard and a young man rolled up on a motorcycle and we started chatting.

He asked how long we had lived there and I told him since about 1990. He said he would be right back and that he had something for me. Well, I didn't think anything of it and continued my yard work.

About 15 minutes goes by and he comes back on his bike with a duffel bag. He says "I took this when I was 16 and stupid. I felt bad about it, but didn't know how to return it. I even moved to southern California and kept it with me. I just bought a house and am getting married, and wanted to make sure it got back to the original owner". This is what he said!!!!

This - I never expected. It took allot of guts for this young man to bring it back and fess up to what he did.

Of course I was thrilled to have it back, and it's welded back into the sculpture.

When I had my retaining walls built, I moved the sculpture away from the street corner. I hope I never have this happen again.

My truck got egged two or three days after I got it home. Chipped the paint at the impact point. I was angry but I let it slide as I used to do stupid stuff as a youngster myself. If it keeps happening, then it's stakeout time.
