on which side were your blades dinged ? intake or exhaust ?
are you running an aftermarket filter ??? wondering if DIRT
(from a free breathing filter) may have caused the blade damage...

Yes I have an after market filter (KN in the stock box ) which is changing when I change the Turbo. But this failure was caused by any debris, The nick blades were caused by the bearing failure and the play in the shaft and the blades hitting the compressor housing.

definatlly a different thing, mine made noise each time, wouldn't hardly boost, Looking at it I know why, It is trashed. The truck has 198,000 miles and I have put 40,000 on it since I had it, So no telling how the turbo was treated before me, I installed gauges and never shut down between 350* and 400* never above.

It doesn't hurt to get a dial indicator on the turbo and make sure you don't have too much play, Mine has so much play fore and aft, in and out, I am positive it has been going out for some time.

Any one know where to get a rebuild kit??? :dunno

Well getting on the highway the other day had the chip set pretty high, hit somewhere around 28 on the boost gauge and when letting off the turbo made a wineing noise that wasn't normal, since then turbo boost hasn't been normal with normal driving, Boost is sticking and now at idle I am smoking out the back. Wineing noise is there when ever i do get the boost to come up. anyone want to help confirm that the turbo might be my problem :(

Exact same thing happened to mine (check my sig:sly). It started on I-20 heading east through Merridian, MS. Lasted up to Florence, AL where I stopped. I had my TS chip set on 100. By the next day I could hear my turbo wheel grinding against the housing, through the exhaust, when I turned my truck off. The smoke is from oil pumping through the turbo, into the engine. My mechanic later told me that if that ever happened again, that the engine could actually run itself (even with the ignition OFF!!!) from the cenrtifical force and the oil being pumped in untill the engine is bone dry of oil. The only way to shut it off is to RIP the air intake box off and clog up the intake with anything you can. Buts its all good in the neighborhood $1,450 later. Wish I had known about the WW at the time...would have been the best time to do that.
